Stephan F. Kistler lives and works in St. Paul. He has had a life-long interest in the visual arts, especially photography and architecture – and was an avid photographer during his teen and college years in his native Switzerland – but then pursued a career in science end engineering that pushed his creative endeavors and aspirations in much different directions, and left only a limited amount of time and focus to pursue any serious artistic aspirations. The advent of digital photography and recent perfection in both camera and printer technology provided the motivation and impetus to reconnect with his former love for photography, and opened the possibility of balancing a demanding career with a reinvigorated pursuit of visual arts. Stephan does not have any formal training in photography or the arts. However, in recent years, he was able to draw guidance, insight, and challenges for a new trajectory of learning and discovery from several outstanding photographers teaching weeklong workshops at the Santa Fe School of Photography and the Minneapolis Photo Center. His goal is to create a point of view that helps others see their surroundings, people, and themselves in a new and enriched way.
